Most people just expect that their banking App’s will always work when they need them, but that is not always the case. Many ANZ customers were reminded of this today (Christmas Eve) when they confirmed that some customers are experiencing “intermittent issues” logging into the ANZ goMoney app and internet banking services.
It was reported that some ANZ banking customers have been affected by an outage to online banking services. It would have to be the worst time too – just a day out from Christmas Day.
What a day for this to happen!
Do You Have More Than One Bank Account?
Loads of Kiwis only have bank accounts with a single bank, or at least they currently do. This has been something that the banks in New Zealand have worked hard to promote too.
It’s easy to have the banking all with one bank and seeing all the bank accounts on a single App.
But that may be coming to an end soon.
We should have seen open banking in New Zealand already, and while the banks have done what they can to stop this coming, open banking will be forced upon them and they will be made to comply.
Open banking is going to change the way that Kiwis use bank accounts as it will allow third party App’s so rather than having just an ANZ App or ASB App you will soon be able to have a separate non-bank App where you can access any bank accounts that you have from a range of banks.
What does this mean?
Firstly it means that you can select the best accounts from a range of banks – so you might have your everyday account with ANZ but a savings account with Kiwibank and a term deposit with Rabobank. You can then see these all on your single banking App.
Then the exciting part is that you can choose an App that has the features that you want and would use. Some of the Apps that we’ve been shown have a lot of good features that will make your banking experience better and will help you manage your bank accounts better too.
